  • Bogota, October 2023 - SATENA, the airline of Colombians, launches a new image dedicated to breast cancer awareness on one of its aircraft. This touching and supportive gesture coincides with the commemoration of Breast Cancer Prevention Month, celebrated during October.

Through its pink ATR-42, the airline will carry a message of awareness through the skies to each of the destinations where it currently operates. The first flight of this aircraft is scheduled for October 2, departing from Bogota's Puente Aereo and its crew will be made up of female pilots and flight attendants, in honor of those who have lost the fight or continue to battle this disease, which is the second leading cause of death among the female population.

The initiative will not be limited only to this flight, the remodeled aircraft will continue to operate during the month of October in the different routes covered by SATENA, taking the message of breast cancer prevention to remote regions of the country, which are often out of reach of other awareness campaigns. The airline seeks to use its reach and presence in diverse communities to contribute to awareness and education about the importance of early detection.

"At SATENA, we not only fly to connect destinations, but we also fly with a social purpose. The prevention of breast cancer is a cause that touches us deeply, and we want to bring that message of hope and awareness to all the communities we serve. This gesture is our small tribute to all the brave women who fight against this disease", Brigadier General Óscar Zuluaga Castaño, President of SATENA.

The aircraft's design bears the name of Captain Paola Echeverri, one of the airline's pilots who won the battle against cancer, and other emblematic elements related to breast cancer prevention, such as the pink ribbon, a universal symbol of the fight against this disease. Likewise, the red corocoro, the representative bird in SATENA's logo, will also be pink.

During the launch of the first flight of this aircraft and the tribute to the protagonist of this initiative, Captain Paola Echeverri shared her testimony as a breast cancer survivor and the role of the airline in her recovery process. "If a disease like cancer is discovered in time, it is possible to move forward with courage, strength and decision, but early detection is very important. Tributes should be made in life and today, I feel proud and grateful to be part of a company that seeks to spread this message," said Captain Echeverri.

Also during the event, experts and organizations involved in the fight against this disease presented the actions that will be implemented in favor of this cause.
